Auction News


On December 14, 2016, Sotheby's Auction House sold a piece of original artwork by Edward Gorey. The piece, entitled "My Socks are Falling Down" appears on page 9 of Penny Candy by Edward Fenton (New York: Hold, Rinehart & Winston, 1970). At 5 3/16" x 4.5", this pen and ink drawing is a tour de force example of Mr. Gorey's considerable skill and talent at crosshatching. Estimated at $4000 - $7000, the piece sold for $6000.00.
