Edward Gorey's cousin Elizabeth Skee Morton passed on October 13, 2025 at age 91.
Along with cousin Eleanor Garvey (d. 2019, pictured left), Ms. Morton (pictured right) and Edward Gorey himself were the inspiration for Mr. Gorey's 1971 book The Deranged Cousins.
Edward Gorey turned the walks taken with his cousins into a humorous, if tragic, keepsake of happy times spent with family. Of course, the dreadful events depicted in The Deranged Cousins never occurred and are not based on fact.
